Description

A marquise cut diamond is an elongated, brilliant-cut gemstone featuring a curved body and two pointed ends, often compared to the shape of a football, a small boat, or an eye. • Key Characteristics: • Shape & Silhouette: It has a long, narrow profile also known as the “navette” shape (French for "little boat"). • Facet Count: It typically features 58 facets (33 on the crown and 25 on the pavilion), designed to maximize light return and sparkle. • Visual Size: Because its carat weight is distributed lengthwise across a shallow profile, it has one of the largest surface area spreads of any diamond cut, making it look much larger than a round diamond of the same weight. • Effect on the Hand: The elongated geometry creates a flattering, slimming, and lengthening illusion on the wearer's fingers. • Length-to-Width Ratio: The ideal ratio typically falls between 1.75 and 2.10, with 1.85 to 2.00 considered the classic "sweet spot" to avoid a shape that is too stubby or too needle-like. • The Bow-Tie Effect: Like other elongated cuts (such as oval or pear), marquise diamonds can exhibit a dark, shadow-like "bow-tie" across the centre facets depending on how light passes through the stone. • History & Origin: • 18th-Century France: Commissioned by King Louis XV, who asked royal cutters to shape a diamond to resemble the smile of his mistress, the Marquise de Pompadour. • Modern Appeal: It gained a massive surge in popularity during the vintage and Art Deco eras, as well as the 1970s and 1980s, and remains a bold, romantic choice for modern engagement rings. • Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds, sharing the exact crystal structure and hardness. They are not diamond simulants. When it comes to sparkle, both lab-grown and mined diamonds are comparable, displaying the full range of quality characteristics. • This lab grown diamond has been certified.
